What are the Types of Post Dental Palate?
What is a mouth expander?
A palatal expansion is a fixed dental appliance. It is used
to widen the upper jaw to create space for the teeth. Dentists or orthodontists
or full mouth rehabilitation with implants
specialist can use a palatal expander before placing traditional braces.
Dentists may also call them orthodontic spreaders. The
spread has two parts that connect to the upper teeth on each side. These parts
are connected between the ends by a screw.
You will use a special ring to turn this screw periodically
according to the schedule given by your orthopedic specialist. This places
light pressure on each side of the jaw, gradually expanding the palate. Once
you get the color width you want, you will continue to wear the extender for
several months. This additional time allows new bone to form in the space,
stabilizing the palatal expansion.
Types of palatal expanders
There are several types of palatal expanders, including:
Removable palatal expansion
If your upper jaw needs minor expansion, your orthodontist
may recommend a removable palatal expander. Although removable, you should
always wear the media except when eating, playing sports, or brushing your
teeth. With the extension of the removal, you will need to turn the screw two
or three times a week, depending on your doctor's advice.
Hyrax Rapid Palatal Expander
Hyrax is a commonly used tool to expand the edge. It is a
pair of metal wings with straps that fit snugly around the back of each. The
orthodontist connects these bands to the molars, fixing the spread. You'll want
to turn on the central switch periodically. Your orthodontist will provide you
with keys and instructions for use. Because Hyrax only has chips and wires
without acrylic coating, it is easy to clean. Another advantage is that it does
not irritate the palatal mucosa because the tooth bears pressure.
Haas Extender
The Haas design is similar to the Hyrax but includes
acrylic. It is attached to the back molars and works well on the palate and
teeth.
Like the Hyrax, it has a central screw that requires
periodic rotation.
Four propeller devices
The four-helix expansion provides the advantage that it does
not need to be changed once it is available. It was made to grow on its own.
Instead of a screwdriver, this screwdriver has four springs that work. The
orthodontist sticks it to the back molars in a compressed position. Then, it
grows slowly without the need for manual maintenance.
